Operation School Room Re-Organization is Complete

After a rough month of February the kids and I decided we needed a change in the School Room.  So we found a new, really nice white board, took down the old ones, patched holes, painted, rearranged almost all of the furniture and hung the white boards back up.  Sure we blocked a window but we never open them and generally don't open the blinds because it creates a pretty nasty glare.  The new placement gives us a bunch more usable wall space and seems to make the room fell bigger to us. Here's some new pictures.

Week 21 in Review -- Feb. 22-26

We were supposed to start back to school last Wednesday, but unfortunately a family tragedy hit.  Our 12.5 year old dog Rumples got very ill and in the end we decided putting her to sleep was the best for her.  She was truly a great friend to us and in all our moving with the Navy was the one constant through them all.  It's been very hard getting used to being with out her.  Our other two mice also died last week making it a really bad month for us.

We were able to get some work done this week, and will spend the weekend re-organizing and rearranging the school room so we're ready for a fresh start in March.

Here's what we did get done.
Everett:
Spelling: Spelling Workout Lesson 9 completed.
Reading: He finished The Celery Stalks at Midnight and began Nighty Nightmare.
Math: Teaching Textbooks lessons 25-28 were completed. These lessons worked on elapsed time, and two step problems.

Annika:
Language Arts:McRuffy Phonics and Reading 1 lessons 1-4 were completed. They were a review of the short a and short i sounds.  She did great and continues to improve in reading ability every day.
Math: McRuffy Math 2 lessons 1-4 were completed.  She blazed right along with these lessons, that covered some review of +0 through +5 facts.  She's really enjoying the Math Journal part of the program as well as the response book for mental math.

Lucas:
Preschool: He's completed lessons 17-20 in both his My first book of Coloring and My first book of Mazes. He's doing so well and loves doing school each day.

History: We're back at learning about the birth of our Nation and watched a few episodes of Liberty's Kids as well as started reading  Meet Felicity.
Science: We've made a move to Earth and Space science because Chemistry was just too much for Anna, we'll pick up Chem again next year for another go.  This week we worked with weather changes, did some work with temperature, rain gauges, made an anemometer, and started a weather journal.

We have a few changes coming up, I received IEW's Student Writing Intensive A, which Everett will use.  I had purchased B and it was a bit above his head.  We also made the leap back to All About Spelling, after testing the waters, we realized this is the one that works and with which they actually retain what they learn.  We're all very excited for these changes, and Anna has asked to work through All About Spelling even though spelling is already covered in McRuffy.  She said AAS is just too much fun not to do!

Tune in next week for our week 22 review.

Annika:
Language Arts:McRuffy Phonics and Reading K lessons 171-175 were completed.  She received a 100% on the final test, this means she is done with this level and can move onto grade 1.  She's is so excited to move on.
Math: McRuffy Math 1 lessons 149-160 were completed.  She also received a 100% on the final test for Math 1 so she can move on to level 2 when we come back from our week off.  She's very excited about this and can't wait to jump in.

Lucas:
